Helen from Healthy Living Platform gave me a very warm welcome to Southwyk House Community Hall where volunteers were picking up food packages (including meals cooked on the premises, such as this week’s cauliflower and potato curry) to deliver to members of the local community. She sorted out 3 packages for 3 addresses for me to start with and gave me a snazzy cooler bag to carry them in. Google maps decided to send me the wrong way at one point and then it started pouring with rain so my jog turned to a sprint (well, sort of) to get to the third house and back to base. The rain felt much needed after days of unrelenting heat so I can’t complain, and it was dry for my final two deliveries, one of which also included nappies and baby clothes. I covered 4 miles in total and as I walked and ran I thought a lot about what community means, inspired by the amazing banners and signs that have popped up around Brixton. It was a great way to spend an afternoon... what a glorious feeling!
