A tree-mendous task to kick start 2019
The first Tuesday group run of the year saw 14 of us out in force including two members joining the GoodGym crew, welcome to Daniel and Bethan! We also had Emily dropping in from GoodGym Slough and Alex and Chris joining for their second GoodGym outtings!
January Challenge Time!
As you may or may not know January is a special month at GoodGym as we take on the January challenge. This is a bit of (friendly!) competition between GoodGym areas to see who can rack up the most good deeds and distance in what is easily the hardest month of the year in terms of motivation to go outside in the dark and cold evenings - this is where GoodGym comes in! This year in Ealing our goal is to reach 140 good deeds between us and to try and run 1450 kilometres as a team. To count just make sure you're on Strava/Runkeeper and connect it up to your GoodGym account, that way all your training miles are counted. Then just come along to as many group runs and missions as you can squeeze in - everything counts towards our target even if you visit a different GoodGym area, if you are registered with Ealing it all counts for us! Read all about it and see our progress here.
Streets of Ealing getting the GoodGym TREE-tment
Our mission for the evening was to rid the streets of hazardous abandoned Christmas trees and take them to designated recycling points so they can be recycled. Ealing Council says that “All of the Christmas trees that we collect get turned into nutrient-rich compost so it’s a great way to get your new year off to a green start!”
After making our way to the recycling point at Cleveland park we soon found the tree graveyard we needed to start adding to, then it was a matter of splitting into teams and heading in different directions to see what we could sweep up! Within no time at all people were returning in all directions, dragging and hauling tree in their teams. Definitely a great workout! Everyone had time to run back out to different areas a good 3-4 times before returning back with loot and in total we collected a fantastic 25 trees from the surrounding area, it's great to know they would now be reused and turned into lovely compost!
Fir good measure...
We weren't done quite yet so before heading back to base we finished up in the park with a quick HIIT session to get the legs really fired up for the evening. Lots of squats variations including my favourite jump squats were back and I think everyone left feeling like we'd had a great all round workout! We finished up with some stretches focusing on where everyone had felt it most this evening before wrapping up on the first successful task of 2019!
Hope to see you all again next time!
