Report written by Lambeth runner
Louise and Jo jogged together to the beautiful old building that SLBI have always called home and are moving back into after a period of renovation.
The task was an immensely satisfying one, working through the boxes of books which had come out of storage and returning them to their rightful places in the botanical library, and then some lifting and shifting to get other boxes into the right rooms for future unpacking.
We were fortunate enough to come across some absolutely beautiful old books and be immersed in this celebration of plants. Kimberley was even kind enough to give us a tour of this amazing institute after!
The South London Botanical Institute (SLBI) in Tulse Hill was founded over 100 years ago to teach local people about botany. This aim continues today at this slightly quirky “hidden gem.” The SLBI has a beautiful botanical garden, herbarium and library. It runs a wide range of courses, workshops, school visits and events for all ages and backgrounds. More information can be found on www.slbi.org.uk
