SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie Hutch
15 Goodgymers did an awesome job tasking for a local Peckham Heritage society. What for? Well, it was in preparation of the old platform 3 waiting room at Peckham Rye station, for a glorious upcoming art exhibition. tra laaaaaaa!!
So this week at housekeeping, it was great to see such an array of smiling, familiar faces! Also filling up Old Spike was a large sprinkling of veterans, including the awesomeness that is Tom Benson joining us in the mix, now he's a local ressy! Sorry not sorry Camden! You'll have to learn to share! And some original old crew who had some celebrating to do!
It was down to the terrific team task force to deliver the Southwark good(gym) news! We were celebrating not one but two black t shirts for the group - Lianne and Michael. Furthermore living up to her birdy name Helena aka PIGEON finally got her wings! yay.
So after celebrations were done, it was a swift one mile boost up to Peckham Rye Station and into the welcome arms of Chris and his team of volunteers for the night ahead and there was no Waiting room allowed As it was straight down to business.
Upon arrival Chris explained that there was much to do to prep the old building for the event; sweeping and washing down walls, disposing of old plywood and the epic task of the sweep and mop of the whole building floor. POW POW!
First up the teams split and as some got busy brushing walls their stairway to Peckham came in the form of rickerty ladders that I had to hold my breath watching them climb! Michael in particular had a lust for heights! YIKES!! The second team hit up the old spiral stairway at the back of the building and pit their hill Train-ing to good use as they formed a chain to run the stairs and deliver the debris from top to bottom in quick formation!
Tom showed sure signs that he was fitting into his new tribe. Oh no wait, was it just that he was getting up to some plain old Tom Foolery
After part one, it was the final 15minutes of floor cleaning and in true Goodgym fashion we worked as a mighty team to sweep, scoop and mop our way to the final countdown! After which we were rewarded with an array of sarnies and treats! Hurrah!!
So after our feed, it was back to train-ing and after a goodbye and swift scoot down the high street once more we ended up on the grassy rye for one last HIIT of fit fun and games. We played this out in the form of sprints, walking lunges and 1 minute timed tuck jumps for good measure!! The final gasps took us to the end of the session, with some flushed but still smiling faces left! Phew.
Another wonderful week, of terrific tasking, fabulous fitness and frollocks with friends.
See you next time!
