On a pleasant, if slightly muggy, summer's evening, three of Goodgym's finest runners painted metal work and then got hot and sweaty running 5km around Wanstead Park. It was ace.

This week saw a return to our summer project of restoring the metal work at Wanstead House. It's been a multi-stage project. First old paint and rust needed to be scraped off. Second, a rust killer needed to be painted onto exposed rust areas. And finally, the Hammerite could be painted on the clean metal. Having mostly concentrated on stages one and two in previous task, last night it was time to put on the all important top coat. Keeping things green, we even sourced reclaimed paint from our friends at the Forest Recycling Project (thanks Nilesh) over in Leytonstone.

With a new shiny coat of paint applies to the main gates, it was time to head out to Wanstead Park and get a bit hot and sweaty. The park can be a bit confusing with all the woodland paths but we managed to find a fantastic circular route that is exactly 5km in length. This could well be our new favourite route, so make sure you get down to a run before the light fades and we are back to our winter running loops.
