Storming through the nettles
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Saturday, 21st of October 2017
Not even Storm Brian was enough to prevent three Good Gym runners from helping Mr and Mrs N with their garden on Saturday afternoon!
After greeting the runners at the door, Mrs N explained our tasks to us. Taking us round to the garden, we saw a patch overwhelmed with nettles and dandelions where they wanted to start growing vegetables. It was clear what we had to do.
Alex and Kate started getting to work with a trimmer and a set of garden sheers to start cutting back the nettles. After joining us, Mel went about with a fork trying to dig up as many of the roots as we could. Throughout the task, we talked with Mrs N about the quality of the soil, advised her on making nettle tea and soup, and even found a road sign under some of the soil in the garden!
At the end of the run, we advised Mrs N to get in touch with GoodGym again so that we can do even better at taking out the roots of the nettles. Mrs N thanked us greatly for our work and advice, and then it was time for us to part ways.
