Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jo Kitching
22 Goodgymers opened up their local A-Z’s or Google Maps (other mapping software is available) and set about planning their fitness challenge this week. The aim was to spell out ‘Goodgym’ or any other combination using GoodGym by finding streets on their run or walk with the letters.
As well as Portsmouth and Southsea, we had Southampton, Gosport, Hayling and Southbourne represented so we got a good range of streets. What is also amazing is that Portsmouth is a small Island with a limited number of street names containing the letters needed especially the letter Y, so it was great to see the different road names included.
This challenge also brought out a lot of creativity in people in terms of spelling out the letters. We have had Goodgym, Goodgym Portsmouth, Goodgym Keeps Me Sane, Goodgym Chums, Goodgym Volunteering, Hi I'm Caroline and Goodgym Rocks.
Some highlights
A massive shout out and cheer to Rosie who has been isolating at home since lockdown began and has been taking up all the fitness challenges that we have had from her garden. As Rosie couldn’t get out onto the streets she spelt out Goodgym with the plants in her garden
Louisa went above and beyond on her challenge and ended up doing 1.5 miles more than she intended as the street name starting with M didn’t have any road signs and was over a mile long.
Sam went out with Betsy and enjoyed finding the streets with all the letters needed. Betsy enjoyed it so much she wants to spell out her name with them. Maybe that’s another session to do.
Sarah creating a type of crossword with her street names surrounded by her route.
Jen getting in her homework in early in the week and ticking this off as part of her miles for mind runs.
Maura being creative and not using the same road name but taking part of one from another road.
Judy headed out and not only spelt Goodgym but spelt out ‘Goodgym Keeps Me Sane’ and added the perfect photo showing how lockdown is going and combining her fancy dress outfits she wears for our quizzes.
Katie CR adding Portsmouth to her road names and finding a handy sign with the entire word.
Angela spotting a bike covered in bright coloured knitting near a shop on her run
Vicki went out and found Goodgym adding Chums to get some extra street names in
John aptly added Volunteers to his word spelling Goodgym Volunteers
Kat is currently streetless as she is living where access to local streets would be quite far to run so she spelt Goodgym Rural Run (maybe this could be a new event) using a combination of letters she has seen when out running in the country from various signs.
Catherine and Maxine heading out separately to get their streets and managing to see each other (at a safe distance) when out.
Lucy & Duncan submitting a joint effort and totally 14km for their run.
Tim artistically submitting his entry and admitting his letter M wasn’t that far from home when getting it
Rachel heading out on the night of the Goodgym run and prior to our quiz.
Caroline one of out new members who we've not personally met yet, sending in a hello message to us.
Katie who was out with her support crew who were puzzled why she was taking photos for her friends whilst she was out and about.
Jo went out early to avoid the looks whilst taking photos and tried to find more roads with Y.
Update Dr Jo submitted after the deadline as she struggled to find a Y, but improvised so was happy to add her streets.
Thanks to everyone for being creative in this task and hope you enjoyed it.
Stay safe
