Report written by Manjit Birk
This task came about via good old social media.
The residents in Cippenham desperately wanted a little stream cleared off rubbish.
So in come the GG team ready to can the litter! which actually was mainly all cans of larger.
In a systematic way, we lined up to cut back the brambles first in order to gain access to the stream.
Ruth did a cracking job of cutting back the brambles... great to have her back in the team and so lovely to see baby Erin today too.
Gauri, Jenny and Sutyee helped tidy the footpathed areas whilst Sara and I pulled the short hunter straw!
We kidded ourselves that we were balancing, using core stability and using our upper body strength whilst standing in a foul smelling stream but in all reality... we really were 'stuck in the mud'!
But great team work as we pulled, picked and plucked the rubbish out.
Rake News
Ben, Ruth's husband had the great idea of using a rake to bring the hard to reach items forward, so off he went to get us one.
A few uses of the rake and we realised how fake it was and more undergrowth and mud was being pulled forward than rubbish.
So back to the good old £poundland pickers... two at a time, job done!
Party Games
Only at Goodgym could you link litter picking to drunken Christmas party games, but this task really was just like a game... from me to you ... to you ... back to me... then me ... to you again... and finally jackpot (it went in the black bag!)
Bin there done that
Clearly we couldn't take this rubbish home with us so we neatly piled it near a council bin and emailed the council team to book in a collection.
Streamingly clean
This was a messy task but one that gave us great pleasure ... to see the stream looking all tidy and clean again!
Well done team!
Until next time!
