Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicola Marshall
It was a beautiful evening last night and the feeling of summer was definitely still in the air. It was wonderful to see Maurice sporting his new 100 task T-shirt!!! A first for Goodgym Crewe, but definitely not the last!
6 lovely Goodgym members walked their way to the task for an evening of fitness and litter picking in some local green space and woodland. Our task wasn’t quite what we had planned but with the weather being so beautiful, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as were able to enjoy a lovely walk combined with some good deeds.
We had a walking group and a running group this evening and so after our warm up, we set off with a plan to meet en-route on the way back. Maurice, Karen & Nicola were in the running group and Alison, Emma & Rob were in the walking group. We each start off by running through the woods, down to the path that followed the brook. The path can be quite busy at times as it’s a popular spot with dog walkers, runners and people just generally out enjoying the fresh air, and last night, the late evening sun.
The running group did a 2 mile run down the path, across the road and almost to the Rising Sun Pub – a stop off for a swift, cold half was tempting but we resisted – and back. The plan was to meet with the walking group somewhere along the route but sadly, it didn’t quite work out that way, lol! However, all is well that ends well as the walking group collected the litter pickers back from base and met us down by the play area.
Litter wasn’t aplenty this evening but to be honest, I’m not complaining – that was really a good thing. It didn’t stop us from having fun, laughter and good chats as we were on our mission to fill a bag or two. We even found some time for some fun on the children’s play area where one or two of us regressed back to our childhoods – again!
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we enjoyed a lovely evening in the last rays of the summer sun. By the time we got back to base though – it was really dark. We managed to get a decent haul of rubbish in the end – most of which was collected from the last street we walked up.
It was a really lovely evening, spent in really lovely company as always. Well done everyone!
