SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week nine brave GoodGym-ers braved the rain to de-weed a local roundabout.
Danica was the first to join me at the Phoenix, already soggy from her run to the cinema. The rain was heavy this evening, a stark contrast to the summer heatwave we were treated to over the weekend.
After a quick intro and a warm up in front of the cinema, complete with what I like to call 'The Wiggle', it was time to head to our mini roundabout. Damian was our trusty leader, while I back-marked with Eleanor.
While we waited for our task organiser to arrive with the tools, we worked through some squats, standing crunches, high knees and balance games under a tree. Stronger calves, quads, glutes, hamstrings, ankles and hips all make for stronger runners and I was very impressed with the stability of the group overall.
After a quick workout, it was time to get to work. Our task owner appeared and talked us through the project. We had 20 minutes to clear the weeds, pulling from the roots. In traditional GG style, we were done in about 14, leaving plenty of time for a quick photoshoot and a jog down to a nearby park for fitness session number two.
Freya lead us to the park, where the team instantly started playing on the playground toys. Sometimes fitness doesn't look like what you might expect. Grown ups should always play more, and this was the perfect opportunity, providing our minds and bodies the chance to move in different ways.
Chris and Jack showed off their pull-up and monkey bar skills, which I was very much in awe of, while Lewis mastered the park version of an assault bike.
Hazel managed to document much of the games, even whilst holding on for dear life on the swings.
Before long it was time to return home.
