Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
December dawned bright but chilly as shoppers began another day, working their way down grocery lists in the run-up to Christmas. Across the country, Tesco stores were also checking their grocery lists as they began preparing for their 11th food collection, in support of FareShare. Tesco, Walton was a hive of activity and had already racked up an amazing amount of donations for their FareShare food collection event, filling five huge cages with a range of tinned and dried goods, including rice, pasta, soup, beans and fish. It was a privilege to be part of such a great community effort. The store staff were friendly and welcoming, making sure that everything was in place. The time flew as customers added an extra item or two to their shopping baskets and filled up the collection trolley on their way out. It was humbling to see the generosity of the Tesco customers, many of whom encouraged their children to add the food to the growing collection. The food donated at the Tesco Food Collection will be directed through the Tesco network to the nearest FareShare Regional Centre. From there it will be redistributed out to local charities and community organisations.
