Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Another gorgeous Monday and where else would the people of Brent be, but GoodGym of course.
Leaping into our 5th month, with many, many miles under our feet, the time had come for the next challenge…… The elusive Wembley had been on our radar from day dot, but because of its distance we had yet to travel that far…. Until now.
With a swift housekeeping for familiar faces, aluminous trainers set onto the start line, we head out the door. Adam and Rasi steering us from the front, the girls bringing up the rear, it was all for one and, one for all.
A cross over of the A406 followed by………A MASSIVE HILL, took us clear and beyond the stadium. Navigator Adam led through a beautiful windy route, a cycle path, a series of tougher than tough, steep staircases, but then, it was all worth it though for the fantastic view at the top.
Just over 3 miles under our belts and we arrived onto Ealing Road. Greeted by Sohail at the magnificent arch of Central Mosque Wembley, another familiar face popped up by the gates…. It was Sadhana!!! Repping the red shirt on her run to meet us there!!
The task at hand was weeding the cracks in the paving that surround the Mosque. Like mischievous imps, they were popping up and poking their little green pods out of the sea of perfectly aligned grey paving stones. We had to get them into check!!
While the team crouched and yanked, chatter was heard in the air.... the sounds of Coach Ellie, listening to Sohail and his beautiful wisdoms around inclusively and the sharing of cultures in this community. He explained that they have evenings of sharing between different faiths, in order to break down the barriers between them and create one cohesive community. Humanity before faith he explained, understanding before judgement.
Laughing and jeering"Oiiiiiii Get back to work" Ellie sprung back into action. with all conversations flowing, we ploughed on and despite their masses, Weedidn’t fail to make a huge difference, completing the job in the 30 minute frame. Goodbyes said and invitations in place for full tours, visits and samosas next time, we were on the road once more for the 3.5 miles left to travel back home.
Families with shopping bags joining us running, gigantic hedges like enormous green pillows we had to try out! The Wembley Arch, football in fields and jumpers for goal posts, setting suns and red t shirts flying past.
A final push up Out of Puffington road and we were back!! 7 miles completed, the longest run anyone in the group has ever completed in one attempt!!! A milestone, a challenge, a conquest and a big achievement.
Fantastic vibes, brilliant group, that’s GoodGym Brent, signing out!!
