It was a wet and blustery night when we gathered outside Sir John Cass primary school in Aldgate to meet our host for the evening, Anna. However, hearts warmed by the sight of some passing fellow runners all dressed as santa, we were soon ensconced in the church next door, and set to work constructing lanterns, by attaching bamboo poles and lights to handmade light shades - all sporting cool, london based designs, made by local school and childrens groups. The construction process at first looked somewhat complex, involving a light, twine, long bamboo pole and lengths of ribbon, but before long, we were building lanterns with skill and aplomb, taking care not to mix piles of lantern shades lest the children wonder where their handiwork had gotten to! Many hands made light work (see what i did there?) and before long we were done, leaving us time to add some pretty finishing touches of ribbon, ready for the children to parade through the streets of Aldgate on friday afternoon. With thanks to all for a very enjoyable evening of craft and good cheer!
