Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
An ominous title, and all will be revealed.
Our numbers reduced, no doubt due to late night shopping in the town centre and other pre-Christmas preparation. But, whilst we missed the others, we knew we were up to the task.
We were litter picking for Rivercare again, and whilst the section we worked on wasn't right next to the river, it is part of our designated area as a Rivercare Goodgym group. I was assured by David from Rivercare that we would find a lot, as a lot is dropped by the Skate park.
We stuck together as a group and started making our way toward the skate park, and Tom and Chris found a bike tyre. Chris decided it would be too heavy to carry around, so we left it, to retrieve when we went past again.
As we made our way into the skatepark, we found a bike inner tube. . . This was getting weird...
We also found part of a skateboard, and a broom beneath one of the ramps. We decided to leave the broom, as we felt it was probably useful to clear debris off the skating ramps, so it was probably there on purpose. (I hope we don't find out that the bike inner tube has some use too).
The skatepark was cleared of rubbish quickly, as it was so well lit, and we continued our way along the path.
And, you'll never guess what Tommy found.
Yes, a wheel, a bike wheel. But it was bent out of shape, and it had no inner tube or tyre attached.
When the pickings were slim, we turned around and made our way back to cover the section we had missed because it was so dark. Headtorches at the ready, and we found ANOTHER bike tyre.
"We found another bike tyre"
So, that's 4 bike parts we've found. We have reason to believe that a bike was brutally torn apart, and the pieces we've found suggest it was within 500m of the skate park. If you saw anything, please let us know by calling. . . (perhaps I've been watching too much CSI!).
Anyways, after a successful womble, we made the short way back to Leisure World to dump the rubbish and put our equipment back before making our way to do a 1 mile time trial.
Everyone ran really well, and there were plenty of pbs. Well done everyone, and see you next week for our last Group Run of the year. Sign up here
