Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jo G
OK, so it was my bright idea to enter a relay team for this year's Manchester Marathon, and three other GoodGymers agreed with me. So it was that the chickens came home to roost on a cold but dry Sunday morning in April.
After a swift trip along the M62 and a tram ride from the outskirts we were at the start at Old Trafford in no time.Matthew was our first leg runner, and Jo headed off on the tram again to meet him at the changover for leg 2. A slightly longer leg and it was Sallyann's turn to head off while Jo and Pauline rendezvous'd to the start of the anchor leg, finally meeting again at the finish.
There were a good few shout outs for GoodGym as we went, along with a fantastic atmosphere and spectator support, and great entertainment along the way from choirs, DJs, singers and drummers. We finished in just over 5 hours, not bad for a team aged over 220 years between us! A marathon is not something any of us would have contemplated doing alone, but in the spirit of GoodGym we worked as a team to achieve something to be proud of. As team captain my main worry (aside from the actual running) was ensuring that everyone got to the right starting point at the right time with the right bag to hand over to the previous person, and thankfully all went without a hitch. We are planning to get one or more teams together for next year and it would be great to have participation from other GoodGyms too. There's a two-leg relay as well as the four-leg option we chose.
