Cold, dark and wet was the theme of Wednesday night as Sam waited in the warmth of Old Spike Roastery for anyone to come through those doors. He knew he was going to meet Folarin and Magda at the task, but was expecting Clare and Daryl.

As the time drew closer to 18:45, he did start thinking he would be the only one running to Kingswood Arts. It might have been the 5k distance that we had to cover in 30 minutes that put people off and to add to that the cold rain that was beating down. Yet, as Sam was about to lock up Daryl showed up just in time to quickly get changed before heading out. There was no time for intros, ice-breaker questions or even a warm-up as we had to run a long distance.

Bovril's Castle

Running along Goose Green, Lordship Lane and through Dulwich, we started our ascent into darkness on College Road as we passed Dulwich College. We made it to the top and through to the entrance of Kingswood Arts where Jack and Folarin were waiting for us. 5k in 29 minutes was cutting it tight, but we were glad to see a warm house and snacks at the ready. Whilst Jack gave the intro and vision of the project (to be up and running by April); Magda arrived by bike and was let in.

The task for tonight was to move furniture from various rooms to various floors.

We started with the fridges near the kitchen. Five fridges had to be moved from there to the basement. It wasn't heavy, but more awkward with the angles and the corridors that we had to go through. Since Magda had a physio session planned for the next day, she took it easy and push the fridges close to the stairs, where Jack, Daryl, Folarin and Sam would take it in turns (in pairs) to bring down the fridges.

Once done, we moved to another part of the "castle" to collect and move wardrobes. Again, Magda took the lighter items whilst the boys paired up to move the three wardrobes downstairs and a bunch of chairs too.

As our energy started lacking and the 30 minutes zoomed by, Jack had prepared us for the last furniture move. Moving 2 quite heavy cabinets from the ground floor to the first (and a half) floor.

As we drew closer to 20:00, we stopped for our group photo and some snacks before leaving Jack behind to lock up as we went our separate ways.

Thank You to all the GG-ers

A personal thanks from me to all those who came out tonight! A special thanks to Daryl for running the 10k (total) with me as well as Folarin and Magda for turning up on such a cold and rainy night. If I could give two good deeds I would as you all deserved double the reward.

Thank You Jack

GoodGym is all about getting fit and doing good! We praise the runners/cyclists/walkers who come to get fit and help out, but we often forget about our task owner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jack as we have been planning this first session sine late November and we finally done it. We look forward to doing more with you over the next few months.
