Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
A cold and cloudy last day of September brings us into Autumn, as two runners complete another mission run in Bristol.
Alex and Richard met up at Queen's Square before running out together to Mrs M's home. There our runners were greeted by Mrs M and her husband, who invited them to the back garden and showed them the hedge.
The task was simple enough, the hedge by Mrs M's fence had grown too much and needed to be cut back. There were some initial complications when Mrs M's husband started taking out a hedge trimmer and a chainsaw, but Alex and Richard emphasised that using these tools would be too much of a safety risk, and instead settled on some trusty loppers and pruners.
Tools in hand, our runners starting cutting back the hedge. Richard handled the top of the hedge while Alex cut back the front of it. Rather than bagging it up for collection, Mrs M suggested we leave the trimmings in a pile in the back garden, where the couple could burn it in their incinerator.
As the two worked, Mrs M's husband put on the kettle and offered us some drinks. The couple talked about how long they had been in the house, and how this hedge was initially gifted to them 40 years ago. At the time they had no idea that the hedge would grow as large as this!
Once the hedge was cut back enough, Mrs M said that she would be able to control the hedge a lot better now. Alex and Richard were thanked significantly for their work, and then went back on their way.
