*Nine runners ran 6K delivering leaflets for Sunflowers Cancer Care Centre *
Our Goodgym Liverpool heroes braved a cold January evening, bringing the heat to the streets of South Liverpool.
The team were tasked with delivering leaflets for a new partner, Sunflowers Cancer Care Centre. The charity offer free support to cancer sufferers, their friends and family. They provide over 20,000 hours a year of support including counselling, pilates, nutrition, massage lymphatic drainage and much more, all provided by volunteers and fundraising in the local community.
The leaflets advertised an upcoming K9:9K sponsored dog walk. By happy coincidence, our team of nine covered (including the door-to-door and fitness session) almost exactly 9K!
After a brisk warm-up and steady 3K run to Sunflowers, the team split into two teams of four and made light work of those letterboxes! Initially focussing efforts along the bigger houses along Alexandra Drive and Ullet Road, the team improvised a half-time change of tact, and switched to the terraced streets south of Aigburth Road. This delivered more bang for our bark (!) as closer together houses meant way more deliveries.
Hundreds of leaflets later, the K9 Nine ran the 3K back to Hope St. Of course, in honour of the absent Char, this wasn't without a brief hill session with some skips thrown in!
Big shouts go to Pauline sporting the well-earned black tee, Katie for back-marking and Sophie for the pun! Also, a big welcome back to recent joiners Grace and Rowan. We hope to see you both regularly.
You'll be back in Char's safe hands next week and, in the meantime, happy running!
