With a forecast for rain and hale, the weather gods were generous to a magnificent seven GoodGymers. And there was even a bit of Saturday sunshine during our Leap Day (29 Feb) gardening mission.
In just 90 minutes Isabelle, Mark, JP, Rebecca, Sam, Naomi and Anita: removed a huge trug full of weeds from the Three Pigeons Plot; planted 40 perennials donated by Petersham Nurseries; picked up litter; and swept up and removed a jumbo bag full of twigs and rotting leaves from the area around the Plot.
These perennials will add summer colour: 15 Kniphofia Sweet corn (red hot pokers) 11 Salvia Amistad (sage) 13 Echinacea purpurea And the Salvia will be particularly attractive to bees π and other insects with itβs dark purple flower spikes in the summer.
Double deed medals to Isabelle, Sam and JP who left to join other Community Missions in Tower Hamlets, Putney and Wandsworth. And thanks to Mark who has offered assistance on the construction of the roof of The Three Pigeons Insect Hotel.
A brilliant way to spend part of the Intercalary day, the bonus 24 hours we get every 4 years.
