Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Monday nights Tower Hamlets run saw 20 runners head south down canals paths and through back streets to meet Christine from 'Adopt a Garden'. Andrew and Steve set off first to meet Christine and check all was in place for our task.
Following a short warm up and name check for everybody else Bryon lead the 4.3K run to Brabazon street in Poplar. On arrival Christine had already set Andrew and Steve to work and they had made a big impact.
Our task was to clear two small roadside plots of land from all weeds and lay on new compost. The plots where going to be adopted by a local resident who was looking forward to growing plants and flowers on them.
Turning soil, separating roots and not injuring worms the task took very little time for GG runners.
For the run home we split into two groups with the majority of people choosing a longer run home on Limehouse canal and back up Regents Canal. The rest of us ran straight back and reached the top of the canal before the main pack.
Feeling positive with the warmer, lighter evenings we felt great having achieved another 'good deed' and everybody was looking forward to a early evening. But....
On returning back to Hollybush community center we where locked out!
Phone calls where made, local residence where questioned and offers of kicking the door in where declined.
Fortunately the Good Gyms members awe inspiring positive attitude made light of the situation and made the wait for our savior pass in no time.
Our knight in shining armor was Patrick 'black belt' judo instructor who drove back from his home to let us all in. (What a hero)
Thanks to everybody who came. Apologies it was all a little wonky but we styled it out right!
