Good Morning goodgymmers! Today I bring you a tale of a mission that has spanned multiple weeks, boroughs phone calls to resolve, but has finally had a happy ending.
It all started a couple of weeks ago where I had to visit the lovely Mr. K who was sheilding and needed a new key fob, to be able to enter his building. He gave me a council tax letter and some money to go to Lewisham Town Hall and ask someone there for a new fob. This seemed a little fishy to me, but I obliged and went ahead. Unfortunately due to all the sheilding that was going on, there was noone in the office, and noone who was able to help me. After some frantic phone calls to Mr. K it transpired that he had been misinformed and there was an online process involved to order him a replacement fob. Mr K unfortunately was acting as a middle man so I decided to take over and act on his behalf.
I agreed with Mr. K to give him a hand, and then the never ending peice of this mission began. I was transferred two different organisations, and across 17 departments (not joking) when I happened upon a lovely useful lady named J. J directed me to the website where I could order the replacement fob for Mr K, and because I have worked in IT for 14 years I made her hold the line whilst I tried to order the replacement fob myself. My instincts were spot on, because the website didn't work, and poor J was mighty embarassed. She promised me a phone call the following week, from a senior member of her team, and we left to enjoy the bank holiday weekend.
The following week I received a call from the even more useful M, who finally sorted Mr K and I out. She put a replacement fob in the post to Mr K, but told me if the broken fob was not returned, Mr K would be charged some money. So to prevent that, I wandered back to Mr K's house today, to grab the broken fob and post it for him and put an end to the longest mission I have ever done.
I've done a lot of missions but this was one of the more satisfying ones I had done. On a purely selfish level, I have been feeling helpless during these weird Co-vid times, so it was very satisfying to see this one through to the end. Mr. K was so pleased to be able to get in and out his flat as he was ending his sheilding period next week and thanked me and called me a determined young lady. Well you got the determined part right Mr K, not so sure about the other two.
Stay safe goodgymmers!
