As 80’s music was mentioned on this week’s run, I thought the run report title should reflect a classic album of the decade. The Raw and the Cooked.....raw because we were running in Rawthorpe and cooked because after running round delivering a stack of leaflets in 30C heat we were all pretty cooked! There’s a GoodGym prize for the first person to the name of the band who created the album. Post your answers below- no Googling!

Once again six GoodGymmers braved the heat this week. Heather Wilshaw-Jones, Helen Rutherford, Meg Deacon, Mark Donnellan and Wendy Redmire rocked up at the Stadium along with myself. As ever the crew were ready for action, although admittedly due to the heat any action was a little steady. But after slowly scaling Kilner Bank we did manage a run to the centre of Rawthorpe. However give Huddersfield GoodGymmers some leaflets and they spring to life, and the team were soon relaying up and down the various streets in the estate. Their efforts ensuring that all the families in the area new about the forthcoming summer holiday kids clubs run by Kirklees Youth Alliance.

Plenty of the local kids were out too enjoying the sunshine, and they were (generally) encouraging as we ran through their neighbourhoods posting as we went. Somewhat less encouraging were one or two local dogs, Helen Rutherford had a narrow escape when a little furry fella took a bite out of one of her leaflets. Although that’s far and away more preferable than it taking a bite out of her!

Despite the occasional truculent terrier GoodGym are seldom deterred from our task in hand, and with the precision of a well drilled machine in less than an hour we had all the flyers posted. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the heat there was little appetite for a fitness activity, so instead we enjoyed a steady run back to the Stadium and a slightly early finish.

Thanks to all of tonight’s GoodGymmers for turning out on an evening when it may have been more tempting to sit in the garden with a cold drink. Your efforts are (as ever) much appreciated.
