Report written by Colchester runner
With the England vs Croatia semi-final game and the Wimbledon quarter-finals on, we were understandably light on numbers this evening, but the Secret Seven still came out to do good and get fit... and we all still made it home in time to watch the end of the matches! Kudos to Ian, Vanessa and Katherine on doing the Friday 5 miler recently and well done Vanessa on getting a PB.
We made a quick get away from Leisure World to get up to the Colchester in Bloom allotment and were greeted by Jan, with Pam arriving shortly after. We got started on watering the whole of Colchester in Bloom's allotment site, making sure all the plants got a good drink. The wheelbarrow was soon ditched and we all opted for farmer's walks up and down the hill to refill the watering cans. Whilst Carl, Helen and Ian continued to give the plants a good soaking, Vanessa got working on dead-heading flowers and Bob and Vanessa had a hoe down!
Time goes fast when helping with a task and before we knew it was time to say our goodbyes and help shut the gate that was giving Pam and Jan bother!
On the way back we got in the spirit of the day and had our own penalty shootout - hats off to Helen and Bob in goal!
The gold star of the evening goes to Vanessa for making a great effort dressing up to show her support for England! Credit too to Helen for showing support to Wimbledon and reminding us about the brilliant strength of those cycling in the Tour de France!
Pam has asked if any of us lovely Goodgym Colchester people find ourselves near the Colchester in Bloom barrier boxes (Crouch Street and top of Balkerne Hill) when we are either in town at any point or nearby on another task, can we give the plants a little TLC, some water and dead-heading, as the recent beautiful weather and vandalism after football games is taking its toll on the plants.
Plans are in the making for our Goodgym Colchester 2nd birthday - watch this space! Any suggestions of where to go after the run?
