Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This morning I met up with Rebecca for a mission in Hackney for Ms J.
Ms J loves her garden but hasn't been able to keep up with the work on it as much as she would like to. GoodGym were asked if some runners could pop around and mow the lawn to help neaten it up a little.
Unfortunately for Rebecca, I was slightly less mobile today due to a sprained ankle (meaning she'd probably have to do most of the work). After an apology to this effect, we introduced ourselves to Ms J and her daughter, receiving a warm welcome and some blue plastic booties to keep our trainers pristine in return (she's obviously known a few sneakerheads!)
Thankfully, the grass in Ms J's garden wasn't terribly overgrown, although a central region had somehow turned into an explosion of ivy, brambles, weeds and rose bushes. As the lawn wouldn't take too long to do, Ms J asked if we could also cut back some of the brambles from this central region, particularly towards the left hand side.
Rebecca happily took over the mowing while I stood vaguely statically and occasionally flexed my secateurs at the brambles, ruthlessly destroying bindweed and ivy as I went. It seemed like no time had passed at all before Rebecca was finished with the lawn and keen to join me in the wanton destruction of the unwanted: She started with de-weeding a planter before joining with me in the big hack.
After working for close to an hour, we finished up by raking and sweeping up the debris (Rebecca looking very... determined with the broom after kindly asking if I would like to take more pictures instead of sweeping ๐คฃ This is the best type of mission mate!)
Making our goodbyes to Ms J and taking out the garden waste, we were delighted to be gifted a (large!) bar of chocolate each for our time today. We both very much appreciated it: I'm pretty sure today's warm weather is going to melt it directly into my mouth, so it may not get home safely! ๐
It was great working with you, Rebecca. Hopefully you can make Camden's community mission in a couple of weeks! ๐

I'd forgotten that my phone takes a one second video when it detects motion... The ones of you sweeping are class (so focused!!), so I'll send them to you :) Thanks for being good company! ๐
