Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Emma Wilkins
Aimee and I met at the end of Ms D's road ready for our mission. We knocked the door and were greeted with the most enormous smile! Ms D was very pleased to see us!
We walked through the house (over Ms D's friendly dog) and into the lovely back garden. Ms D explained that she had created a wild garden that she loved to spend time in. The garden was in two parts - a potted plant area near the back door with some trees as shelter and a roof terrace accessed via a ladder. Ms D tasked us with cutting back some of the plants to enable her to access the terrace whilst maintaining the wild nature of the garden.
Aimee and I got to work, using the secateurs that Ms D had Kindly purchased for our mission. Along the way, Aimee rehoused some snails and met Ms D's cat, Misty. Ms D popped out every now and then to admire our work and offer us refreshment.
Before long, the terrace and ladder were clear with much improved access to the table and chairs. Ms D can now enjoy the sun on her terrace! We'd filled three bags with our cuttings!
Ms D had very kindly purchased some nibbles as a post run snack and we sat down and chatted with her. Ms D told us how she'd loved skydiving and had completed over 1000 skydives, including lots for charity! We chatted about the importance of being kind and helping others. Ms D is of the firm view that communities are vital for the future and that people are coming together more to respond to society's challenges.
It was time for us to head off. After giving Ms D the biggest hug, we headed off to enjoy the rest of the sunny afternoon, agreeing that Ms D was utterly inspirational and had a spirit of joy and happiness! What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
