Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
5 Camden GoodGym runners ran between 6-10k to help clear up a local park for Somers Town Community Sports Day
On a beautifully sunny Sunday morning, Camden GoodGym runners jogged to Brill Place to help Somers Town Community Centre get the park ready for their annual sports day. Its a great event and a nice opportunity for the whole community to come together. There were loads of events for local children to get involved in, and it provided a chance to showcase the range of sporting opportunities available in the area.
Beer Cans and Cigarette Butts
Brill Park needed a major tidy up- beer cans and cigarette butts don't make for good obstacles in the obstacle race. So, alongside some other local residents, we donned our gloves and got to work. We found some pretty strange stuff- from kids toys to sleeping bags, but we quickly cleared a large area for the children to race around.
Chocolate Brownie Temptation
We then set off on a nice Canal run- except for Sarah who had already covered 20k in preparation for the Ealing Half Marathon! I think thats a pretty good excuse not to finish the run. We ran an out and back route- running 5k to Regents Park and 5k back to the centre. The most difficult stretch was the walk-jog past the foodstalls in Camden market....damn those brownies look good after a long run!
** Free 3 Course Dinner!**
It was a cracking run with Sarah and Rebecca more than holding their own and matching the challenging pace set by Alex and.....erm me, Shaun. When we arrived back FoodCycle were offering a free 3 course dinner at the Community Centre. We had a great falafel wrap and chickpea curry-all made by UCL students from food thrown away by Planet Organic. A great end to a fantastic run!
