Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
GoodGym welcomed two new runners this week Kwame and Philippa, both students at UEL who have decided to do a project on GoodGym Newham our runs and work in the local community, so we will be seeing some more of them over the coming weeks.
Our task this week was to head to the Sports Pavilion in Wanstead Flats and continue repainting the discoloured beige looking walls with a fresh coat of white. James from the City of London had everything ready for us, on arrival we all picked a patch of wall in need of help, brushes and rollers in hand and got to work. Teamwork is key when only two members have rollers and the rest have brushes. You have to get timing just right so that when the roller comes along you're not left at the bottom doing the edges and in the perfect spot for paint spatters and such to drop onto your head - Andreana found this out the hard way.
Half an hour later and with a bit of excess paint on us and our lycras (we’re getting better) we posed for a pic and made our way back through the streets of East. By now the wind had picked up a bit and added an extra chilly challenge to the return journey. We were ready though, spurred on by the desire not to get blown away. Half way back my fingers went numb and I lost the ability to push the shutter button on my camera. Insert beaming smiles from the group who were happy to be free from any further candid shots.
As we made our way along the home straight, aquatic centre in sight we gave one last kick with a sprint finish. Nice work everyone a mammoth 7.8k + Decorating
Good luck to everyone taking part in the Winter 10k over the weekend
Same time next week, remember to tell a friend to tell a friend and then bring them all along
