Last night 8 members from GoodGym Croydon ran the short distance to Park Hill, to assist Friends of Park Hill.
Congratulations to Samantha on completing her 10th good deed, do visit her profile and give her some cheer and encouragement.
The walled garden has been closed to the public for its transformation makeover and we were the privilege few to witness the new look walled garden following the renovations being completed.
Friends of Park Hill are working on opening the newly planted garden next year with performances from various community groups, SLiDE (South London inclusive Dance Experience), Savvy Theatre (disabled theatre), Talawa (black theatre group) as well as a couple of Jazz groups and hopefully the the London Mozart Players. (but yet to be confirmed)
They will be creating 12 peace poles with 24 groups, each pair of groups will be of different backgrounds or ages and wouldn’t normally meet. We are also included in their plans, they are planning on teaming up GoodGym Croydon with another group to create a peace pole with a local artist. Also we have been been given an area in the wall garden and has also given us the option in choosing what plants are planted in our area. If any member would like to help or feeling creative do get in touch and I'll pass you details onto Josi and her team.
Just listening to the ideas makes me wish it was next year already as I can't wait for the reopening.
There were still a lot of work to be completed, we were there to help dig up the type 2 that was at the edge of the path to back fill along the platform wall.
Due to the type 2 being compressed for the path it was quite hard to dig up but with a bit of hard work and a pick we managed to dig up the areas we were tasked with and spread it along the wall for when the soil is ready to be put on top for the rest of the garden work. Having completed our task Josi and Catherine thanked us for what we had done and reminded us that it would have taken them ages to achieve what we did within the time we were there.
If you missed out on last night's group run there will be plenty more opportunities for us to go back and help before the grand reopening.
