With all the hot, dry weather we have been having lately, Maidenhead Community Allotment was feeling very thirsty, so Anita, Gillian and Sheila went along to give it a big drink. Anita manned the hose, whilst Gillian and Sheila set to with watering cans. Everything was in need of water, but the crops are also thriving - particularly the tomatoes, which are rampant and the fruits are beginning to turn colour. We also emptied a large trug bed of some spent herbs, which ended up on the compost heap. Once the watering had been finished, all the water butts were topped up in case of a hosepipe ban. Whilst waiting for these to fill, we swept the patio and weeded around the edges of the raised beds. Great job, everyone. See you next week!

This task supported

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
