On a Monday night in Wanstead, six GoodGym Redbridge runners met and cleared seven huge bags of rubbish from the Green Man roundabout. They ran 4.5km in process.

With the country in full Great British Spring Clean mode at the weekend, it was down to GoodGym Redbridge to take hold of the baton which began just the previous Saturday. Peter, of GG Hackney/Redbridge fame, had been on a GG Mission to tidy George Green on Saturday and reported back to say that the team had not managed to get as far as The Green Man roundabout.

Step in GoodGym Redbridge. Armed with gloves and bin bags, the team - consisting of regulars Alice and Peter, Trainer James and THREE new members, Kaz, Gwendolyn and Tally – ran west to collect litter and make the area a prettier place.

While litter picking is not always the nicest activity, it can make a huge impact on the appearance of an area and this was certainly the case with this task. Within 35 minutes, the team had filled seven bin bags with empty beer cans, plastic bottles and coffee cups. An amazing haul for such a short period of time! The group was even thanked by a local who walked by and praised the “public spirit” of the act. Nice work team.

With the job done it was time for an easy jog back to base before some instruction in dynamic and static stretching from Trainer James.

Great work SQUAD. Thanks for be up for the challenge and working so hard. And bravo to the three new attendees. Hopefully we’ll see you next week for more doing good in the area.

Don’t forget we’re back next week with a NEW and exciting task helping out a foodbank in Ilford. We need all hands on deck for this one and you can sign up now using the following link.
