Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jenny
As Magda, Nikki and I gathered this morning at 11am, we wondered, hmm why is no one else here? And secondly, why is there no rubbish?
Luckily Magda solved the second of our problems with a secret litter picking haven in the corner of Purley Way fields. We couldn’t quite believe the expanse of litter, intertwined beneath the trees and hidden in the undergrowth. Name a brand or a type of food and we found it! We nattered for an hour or so as we set to work collecting all the rubbish, also on a hunt for the oldest packaging. I won with a packet of Smoky Bacon from the when I was just 1 year old (1998!!).
We also spotted a nest in the trees above, with all the standard bird nest features as well as lots of old baby wipes and other bits of plastic. We couldn’t agree between us if this was ingenious of the birds to keep all warm in the winter (Nicola) or a travesty and a very sad sight (Magda). Within an hour we have collected 6 big sacks and it looked like we had barely touched the sides, there is still a lot more for us to go and get another time.
By the time it had reached 12:30, we realised why no one else turned up, Magda set the date on the website to next week - oops! Seems like we will be back litter picking in Roundshaw sooner than we thought.
Come and join us next Sunday if you can, there is 100% enough litter to go around :-)
