Report written by Gwyn Williams
Tracey and Gwyn met Khara at the Derby Summer Sessions at Markeaton Park. It's not unusual for us to volunteer. We were looking after the accessible area across the borderline, which was not too much pressure. The huge marquee was set up on the green green grass and the accessible area was in a corner, elevated above the capacity crowd: an area of dreams that wasn't out of reach. We didn't see an expected guide dog, not even a pussycat. The audience were mostly well behaved: just an occasional whisky drinking woman. We were there for six hours and heard some great artists. Can you work out who they were?
The Accessibility team is responsible for making sure that all disabled, d/deaf/hard of hearing and/or neurodivergent customers have an enjoyable and inclusive experience during their time at Derby Summer Sessions. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the festival team and gain an insight in how accessibility is managed during a large-scale music event. The job role will involve the below: • Assisting the accessible guests from the entrance and directing them to the accessible area at the festival • Assisting customers to find a seat/spot in the accessible area. • Customer service on the platform and advising customers on any queries they have. • Wrist banding accessible customers on arrival. Timings being approx 4pm – 9.30pm. Volunteers will have the chance to watch some of the show too and stay to enjoy the festival if they want too at the end of their shift. Looking for: 4x volunteers for Friday 12th July 3x for Saturday 13th July 4x for Sunday 14th July
