Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by York runner
When we arrived at Mrs E's she was being taken out to get her hair cut by a family member so we had to wait a little while before we could get a start on the task. The mattress was easily moved and put outside ready to go into the garage. However, the double bed was a heavy-framed, ottoman type that has storage underneath with a large headboard and the mechanism kept popping open as we tried to move it - trapping all 3 of us at one point in the room! We found that it would only close back up when it was flat so we improvised and used a dressing gown belt to tie it shut. We had to move a few other bits of furniture to make space for us to manouevre the bed but we soon realised that the headboard needed to be taken off to get it out of the room. The only tools the family members could find were a couple of pairs of pliers, but luckily a neighbour was able to find just the tools we needed with a fine set of allen keys of all sizes. Vicky and Louise made short work of getting the headboard off and then it was a squash and a squeeze to get the large frame out of the bedroom. With lots of pushing and shoving (luckily the edges were padded) we eventually managed it and carried it outside and into the garage where it was neatly stacked along with the mattress and the base boards. Hopefully Mrs E now has enough space for her new bed to be delivered. A job well done - if a tough one!
