Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nick Moore
Jack and I met outside Ms S's ready for whatever grunt work was needed to move her double mattress from her bedroom to outside to be collected by the council.
Whilst Ms S lived in a basement flat, her bedroom was on the upper floor and as she showed us up the narrow staircase and somewhat windy corridors, we realised this could be more of a challenge than we'd perhaps anticipated...and then Ms S came up with possibly the most inspired suggestion I've heard in months..."Why don't you just push it through the window"? And so we did (after admittedly a bit of pushing and shoving at the sides).
The rest, as they say in the movies, is history. Mattress now on ground floor, ready to be carried by the both of us to the spot that Ms S had identified as the area where the council would do the pick up. Without further ado, we bid farewell to a very grateful Ms S, and the two of us navigated the mattress down the street, trying hard not to recreate some slapstick comedy scene out of a silent movie and end up in a heap at the side of the road.
As the credits rolled, Jack and I bid each other farewell - in these socially distanced times, it was good to have the chance to do a rare two person mission (with the added advantage of each of us being at opposite ends of a double bed mattress ensuring we stayed the minimum 2m apart) and share a few stories about our different experiences of the past few weeks.
