A lovely mission story this weekend - we had visited Mrs J a couple of times to take out some bushes and weed her garden, but had been unable to follow up to plant some bulbs for her as she had not managed to get out to buy some.

Mrs J has always loved her garden and would love to see a splash of colour in it, but just can't manage this herself. However, a very kind beneficiary from a mission on the other side of town last week agreed to let us have some bulbs so that we could take these along to Mrs J's for planting. Brilliant!

So armed with a bag of gloves, trowels and a large variety of bulbs, I met up with Kait and Paddy at Mrs J's so that we could put a bit of colour back into her life.

Now, we do not profess to be gardeners or know what we're doing, but with two beds to work with we agreed to plant some daffodils along the edges of both beds and Kait did a wonderful job of coordinating colours for the remaining planting so that we had a plan.

Armed with Anemone, Sparaxis, Brodiaea, Muscari, Allium, Dutch Iris, Crocus and Chionodoxa bulbs we got busy with our trowels trying to dig to the required depth and with the correct spacing as helpfully outlined on each packet of bulbs.

It was starting to get chilly, but Mrs J warmed us up with a nice hot cuppa and some cake served on a great tea tray, which helped us to finish the job.

After 90 minutes or so, we had all the bulbs planted and had a nice chat with Mrs J about the area, her family (with soon to be 12 great grandchildren!) and her previous pets (think there might be a new budgie on the way soon!) and we were then off on our way.

Unfortunately with tasks like this you cannot see the fruits (or should that be flowers) of your labour immediately so we have all made a mental note to pass by from time to time to check how things are growing.

The bulbs are all expected to flower at different times over the next few months so it will be great to see how the garden transforms over that time.
