Report written by Ellen
Undaunted by the drizzly, gray weather here in Cardiff, six GoodGym runners met up this morning at the Grangetown Hyb to help set up for their annual Christmas market. There were gazebos, there were decorations, there was a coffee seller! So what was missing? Tables and chairs of course!
The Christmas market - one of three held throughout the year - is organised by the Grangetown Community Action Group, and showcases some of the best local crafts and specialty foods that South Wales has to offer. Around 15 stallholders were preparing to set up, so we needed to get our skates on (not literally - it wasn't that cold!).
We carried folding tables and chairs from the store room and set them up under each gazebo, so the stallholders could crack on with it. Once that task was done, we set about litter picking in the surrounding area so the place would look clean and tidy for market goers. With equipment provided by the organisers, we quickly filled about 6 bags worth of litter. This included one mouldy pie and also a pair of pants (are they connected? We don't want to know!).
Once finished, we warmed up with welcome cups of coffee. The chilli sauce stall was another source of heat - perhaps too much as Ellen found out! We said our goodbyes and wished them luck for the market. Despite the weather, it was a great task- thank you to all who helped out!
Set up in 1977, Grangetown Community Action is a voluntary organisation that is involved in community events and projects, produces a local newspaper and runs an annual festival.

Well done guys! Maybe we can set it up as a regular thing to help at three times a year as you all seemed to have enjoyed it so much.
