Report written by Esther
Today was another day of Covid Announcements and Boris was due to give another speech at 8pm, with more restrictions to be put back in place. In light of this - Branksome Commnunity Centre asked us to take a rain checks for the nights planned task as they needed to check out what was going on with changes for how they operate.
But it takes more than a change of plan and an update to put us down and the team agreed ahead of the meet they would be happy to litter pick at Branksome Rec instead - Right next to the centre itself. Lets not forget it is exactly these times that we want to be together and have an opportunity to support our local community. As long as we can maintain guidance put in place we want to be out there with a smile on our faces and miles in our legs!
The best bit about this evening was to welcome back Nicola and Richard who are members of the task force that we have not seen for a while. It was so lovely to see them both and the litter pick and run gave such an opportunity to catch up on what was happening with each of them! Christine once again ran down to the centre where we met and back again (Kudos!) - making it a perfect 6 for the run loop later.
The litter pick was really successful (so good we had to pile all the bags into the bins without the end photo of it all!) and we filled up around 6 bags either half or full of rubbish found around the park and recreation ground. It is also a great way to walk and chat to catch up!
There was even a little chance for a play in the playground whilst some team members finished up!
The magic number of 6 of us took off around the streets of Parkstone for a loop as the light was fading. There is an amazing opportunity in this area and that is of some serious hill sprints! The shortest and sharpest hills in town! Part of the loop we completed 3 sprints up one hill - watching as Robert turns into a speed machine whilst Richard casually lead the way to the top! We moved to the next incline and this one really was a beast - but it gave amazing views from the top!
We completed our 5k loop pretty much outside centre - Richard jumped on his bike for a uphill cycle home - Whilst the rest of us jumped in our cars to go home for a cuppa!
Kudos to you all and thank you for making what could be a standard litter pick and run to be a lot more fun than that!
