Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
23 runners ran between 4-7k and shifted a 2 tonnes delivery of woodchip for a food recycling enterprise
This Wednesday's run was a good one- we had a great task, (with apple juice refreshments), a nice canal run, a trip to the pub with caretaker Bob afterwards.
Gone loopy
We ran to help FoodLoop on the Maiden Lane Estate. This is a community led food recycling enterprise attempting to tackle food wastage on the estate. With the help of a few volunteers local residents collect and compost the food scraps from their immediate neighbours and generating a rich fertiliser. As well as being used on the estate itself to grow new food, its also sold to generate enough money to pay local residents for their time in managing the system.
2 tonnes- ish
Our job was simple- Clare, who leads the project, had taken a delivery of 2 tonnes of woodchip earlier that day. This woodchip needed to be transported by hand to the indoor composting rocket. Its brilliant- residents feed it their food waste, chuck in some woodchip and in a matter of weeks its transformed into rich fertiliser! Two tonnes of woodchip would have been impossible to shift for the group, but with 23 keen hands we got through it in little over 30mins. Nice work time.
Juice
After a quick drink of apple juice to quench our thirsts we made our way to the canal for a run. There was a few options, but a high proportion of runners were brave and went for it- legging it all the way to Regents Park and back. Good work. Following a stretch at Granary Square we headed home. For some of us home is now the Somers Town Coffee House- where we dragged caretaker Bob for a quick drink before dinner. See you next week yo!
