Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alex Eggs
Winter is coming. There's no point in denying it. But as the nights grow longer and the temperature drops, the warmth of the GoodGym Tower Hamlets crew still radiates on Monday nights in Bethnal Green! Tonight our wonderful group of twelve met for a fine evening of tree cutting, bed weeding and litter picking in a canal-side community garden, and they did a fantastic job of reviving the garden for the locals. It was a task of a few surprises, with Chris finding some interesting artifacts on his litter-picking rounds, as well as Leon identifying some interesting plants. But the best finds were from Tanya and Becky who successfully unearthed some marrows, which became our mascots for the evening! After a good half hour's work, the team finished collecting the tree cutting remnants as the sun set on the East End. We thanked our wonderful Tower Hamlets Council hosts then began a warmup which was roundly appreciated by the locals, especially the rotating squats as a resident attempted to access his house (sorry!). We then headed off to London Fields for some fartlek running then back to Victoria Park for a quick game of Raid the Goal using some vibrant purple and yellow cones. The team on the north side of the park thought they had won by 9 points to 7, but it was pointed out that 1 marrow = 4 points. Thus 15-9 was the final score. No complaints there. That rounded off a wonderful evening, thanks for coming - especially our new Tower Hamlets heroes Fergal & Leon - look forward to seeing you all next week!
