Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jenny
A trio of Barnet Goodgymmers spent the day helping the team from Energy Garden along with local volunteers clear space for the new community garden on Platform 3 at Finchley Central Station.
The previously award winning garden had been maintained by the station manager but after he moved on, the garden has since been unloved and become overgrown.
Energy garden have worked with local community groups to plan the garden and aim to bring it back to life for the enjoyment of locals and commuters.
Work started with trimming back and digging out two very overgrown buddliea from the middle of the garden. Jenny and Rupesh put their strength to the test and managed to pry the roots out. Then joined by Sally the team worked on saving a mountain of bluebell and daffodil bulbs along with some foxglove and borage. We replanted the bulbs to one area and the rest to large pots so the garden could be better cleared and made ready for the next stage of the project.
Helped along by tea and biscuits and a lunch stop at Greggs for hot vegan rolls and yum yums all that digging and shifting made a dramatic difference in the gardens appearance. We had plenty of train travellers enquiring what we were doing and also commenting on how pleased they were that work was starting on the garden again.
Great effort by all involved and hopefully we will be back in the near future to help with planting and seeing the garden grow.

It will help make the reservoir cleaner and safer for visitors and the many plants, birds and animals that live there.
