Working through our list of tasks at the community allotment, Rachel set to work hoeing the weed seedlings out from around the asparagus and spinach plants and made an excellent job of it. Meanwhile Sheila and Juli gave the lavender plants their autumn trim, leaving them neat and tidy. Sheila moved on to hoeing the flower beds, while Rachel and Juli dug up a rhubarb plant and transplanted it to join the other rhubarb in the back bed. The covered bed was given a water and we said goodnight to the allotment until next week

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
