Report written by Elizabeth
This lunchtime, seven GoodGymmers met up to plog around Russell Square.
Having already organised several litterpicks throughout RED January (which also ties in well with GoodGym's own January challenge), I decided to further refine our litterpicking plans especially for today's pick (TL:DR - I overthought it).
The plan was to divide into two teams, define a boundary running along the North-South equipoints of Russell Square gardens, with one team tackling areas to the West (Team "Cans-Lay-West", comprising Matt, Beth, Helen and Abi), and the other team heading East (Team "It-was-the-East-we-could-do", comprising John, Flavia and I). We would then re-group at the end near some recycling bins (TL:DR - You can see that I really overthought it).
Team It-was-the-East-we-could-do headed along the Eastern side of Russell Square, picking up litter as we went. Aside from noting that John becomes a machine with a litter picker in hand (it darted very aggressively at cigarette ends, which are obviously a particular bugbear), we spent a pleasant half an hour or so discussing the number of GoodGym events that John and Flavia have been on recently. Nice work for both Camden and Lambeth!
I'll coerce someone from Team Cans-Lay-West to write a few lines here later, but until then, let's just assume that they litter picked along the Western side of Russell Square, and had a very fun time. (Seems self evident really) Nice job from runners from Bexley, Hammersmith and Fulham, Wandsworth and Barnet!
At the end, we remembered to meet up to get a group photo (minus me, because the one who writes the report also gets to exclude themselves from photos 😎), and read out penguin jokes before heading off.
Thanks for coming out, folks! 😄

What do you call a penguin in the desert? Lost.
