Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
A wonderful 37 GoodGymers ran between 5-10k, painted trees for the panto and made 13 beds for the homeless.
Welcome along to all the new people at GG Camden tonight - Jade, Charlie, Elliot, Tithany and Chess! Also welcome to GG Birmingham Trainer Jonny who joined us tonight.
In the news this week:
Tonight we had two tasks helping Abbey Community Centre and C4WS. Both amazing Camden organisations!
Bed making for the homeless report:
22 of us set off heading to south Camden and towards the centre of town, dodging tourists and enjoying the fresh Winter air.
After a one mile run we made it to the American International Church. This is run by C4WS who do an amazing job looking after homeless people and providing shelter from January to March each year.
Have you tried the inside-out trick?
Our task for the evening was to make 13 beds for the guests, splitting into pairs or taking it solo we made them all so quickly - 10 minutes! Everyone had their own techniques for making beds, though I learnt a lot. With us being done so quickly it's important to remember this would have taken the C4WS volunteers way over an hour to do.
After a group pic we headed to Russell Square for a fitness session by Jonny. First a fartlek over 10 minutes and then some great glute and core conditioning, including wall squats! Nice work guys!
Painting Trees Report:
A group of 14 runners led by the wonderful PSB (Polly Skeat-Beswick) went to Abbey Community Centre to help paint trees for the pantomime!
Look out Steve's behind you!
On the 5km trip there they stuck together, climbing Primrose Hill and headed North by North West (I think) towards Kilburn and the borders of Camden borough. Upon their arrival they met the wonderful Laura who explained that they needed to paint four massive canvasses of trees in preparation for the pantomime next week! This event will help to bring the community around the centre even closer together, mixing both the old and young.
Everyone got their artistic flair out and in 15 minutes the job was done - corrrrrr lovely stuff! On the way back the group took an alternative route, swinging around Primrose Hill and through the back streets! 10km done, good done - nice one.
With a good stretch out back at base some of us then went to the pub.
Next week we are back helping at the homeless shelter and gardening for sheltered housing. Sign up here.
PB out.
P.s. This group run was my year anniversary of being GoodGym Camden Trainer, it's been an amazing year leading you guys! Thanks for being awesome :)
