Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pauline Harrison
On a sunny, but chilly, spring Saturday afternoon, seven super Goodgym runners arrived at The Greenhouse Project on Lodge Lane to lend some much needed muscle at their outdoor nursery area.
We were met by Jael, the nursery manager, who kindly gave up her Saturday afternoon to let us into the centre, and stayed until we had finished.
The team quickly set to work, removing damaged bamboo screening that had seen better days and was in danger of becoming a hazard...and digging in more than 20 stepping stumps to encourage free play. We even managed to top up the digging area and replenish the soil needed for the mud kitchen.
This area is now a safe place for the nursery children to develop balance, agility and body awareness. In addition to gross motor skill development, this outside play space sets the stage for dramatic play. The children’s imagination will create the stories…
Jael was super impressed with the super seven's efforts and promised to call us back for any future projects.
After all of our hard work and effort, we obviously had to try out the stepping stumps...to make sure that they were safe for the children to use, of course.
A big shout out to all of the team for their hard work and great company today, and thanks to Char for providing our non-pun, pun.
The Greenhouse Project is a charity founded in 1997 in the heart of Toxteth, Liverpool designed to give disadvantaged children and young people the opportunity to increase their creative potential and grow their life chances.
