Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
36 wonderful GoodGymers ran 7km and carried over 200 rolls of turf up stairs for Grounded Ecotherapy.
Some in the GoodGym Camden community consider this the TASK OF THE YEAR, it's the 3rd year in a row we have done this task and it's certainly not got any less physical or fulfilling in achievement!
We collected together outside Somers Town, warmed up and ran through the streets of Camden and Westminster to the Southbank Centre. With Pritesh in the lead we were in good hands directing ourselves through the crowds and wiggling down back streets.
A GoodGym Snake!
And WOW when we crossed the Thames the lights and views were spectacular. I rarely see the river and tonight crossing it with 35 amazing people in a line that seemed to stretch for miles was so uplifting!
We reached the Southbank centre and met Gardener Paul and his 3 workforce members. Paul explained what Grounded Ecotherapy is - a project to help those with alcohol and drug addictions through garden based therapy, it's an amazing organisation that was setup in 2011. Here is the video of the Grounded Ecotherapy team preparing the rooftop for last night, you can like them on facebook here.
Gardener Paul guided us around our route, which involved lots of puddles, stairs and oh man those views! Once having the knowledge of the route we lined up to collect our first rolls of turf. And corrrrrr they were heavy but everyone did amazingly, really putting their backs into it and pushing themselves physically up flights and flights of stairs.
Corrrrrrrr they're heavy!
After us each of us had carried three turf rolls the understandable and expected fatigue started to set in and the transition from mostly solo to pairs taking a roll began. Some people carried turf solo from start to finish, and even ran in between! Everyone put the Gym in GoodGym!
In all we carried over 200 rolls of turf up at least 100 steps, between 36 of us we made quick work but hell wasn't it physical. I am really proud to have shared my Wednesday evening with you all and made such a difference to such an amazing project.
Be proud of yourselves!
We absolutely smashed it guys well done! After finishing we said goodbye to Paul and the Grounded Ecotherapy team, took a group shot and headed home.
Shouts of hunger and exhaustion were heard throughout the streets of Camden on our return. Dreams of food and drinks at both the pub and home were desired.
Four people did their first task last night, and what a way to start - give Michael, Jiro, Adrinna and Joao a cheer!
The pun and run report title is Turf Mudder for obvious reasons but the renowned Tom Benson wanted Tough Mudder because the task was tough and we all got muddy!
Other pun suggestions (mostly made at the pub) included:
Wow a night I'll never and I hope you never forget - be proud of yourselves!
PB out.
Ps. oh oh oh and:
Drinks tonight at the Barrowboy and Banker!
We are doing Regents Park 10k on 3rd April - come on down!
Also we are Running Club Partner of the Year for Run Hackney on 8th May, either race or volunteer!
Race the Horse - last chance to get entered!
