Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This morning I met up with Sam for a mission in Ealing for Mr G.
To help alleviate some of his breathing difficulties, Mr G has recently spent some time decluttering his flat (only joy, and not coughing fits, must be sparked at all times). Although he's been able to sort a lot of the smaller items himself, he needed some help in removing larger items from his home (particularly items for the council to collect). GoodGym were asked if we could help with this.
After saying hello to Mr G, he caught us up with the current state of play: He'd been trying to make arrangements with the council to collect a two seater sofa and a regular-sized fridge-freezer, but had been unable to do so. This had placed him in a bit of a pickle as, rightly enough, he didn't want us to place those items near the bins until he had a collection arrangement in place.
He did, however, have a large TV that wanted taking outside for collection, and so we offered to do that part of the job now to allow him some extra space for decluttering.
Plans arranged, Sam and I spent a few minutes pulling all of the cables out of the back of the TV before trying to move it off its stand (I've been (figuratively) burnt by a connected cable before 😅).
The move outside was reasonably smooth, bar from me occasionally forgetting the size of my turning circle with a backpack 😅. The lift turned out to not be working weekends (maybe weekdays too), so we used the (steep) stairs. Because of the steepness, I "let" Sam (at the lower end of the TV) and the incline take the weight as the TV slid down and simply re-joined him for the flat bits 👍🏻 Once it was outside, a little heave-ho into the bin and we were done!
Mr G was very happy with our work, and kindly offered us some tea to finish with. We unfortunately had to decline as I'd just had some tea and Sam was just about to. However, we spent a pleasant few minutes chatting with him about about GoodGym instead (FYI - he has a brother in Scotland who will be very interested when GoodGym arrives there 😄👍🏻).
It was great seeing you, Sam: catch you at the Beckton Parkrun take over next week! 😄

Thank you so much Sam and Elizabeth, and Goodgym, and sorry that you had to use stairs, I didn't know the lift wasn't working(I'll make sure next time). This was the first time that I made a referral to Goodgym and I must say I am quite impressed. You are amazing guys! Many thanks!

Thanks! It was nice and straightforward for us to do :) Tbh, I suspect that a lift door wasn't closed properly on an upper level, but as we only had a TV to carry out, it just seemed that it would be quicker to take the stairs :) Please keep the referrals coming! :D
