Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Aimee (she/her)
‘Twas the Sunday before Christmas, when all through the park not a creature was stirring, not even a lark. The tools were set in the van with care, in hopes that some goodgymers would soon be there.
Newcastle goodgym did not disappoint, with three people keen To prune bushes, crown trees and help Urban Green Aimee and Liz and Jenny all the way from Greenwich Helped out in the park, to get their goodgym fix.
They hacked away at the brambles to increase line of sight. To improve visibility, stop rubbish gathering, and let in more light. They pulled and dragged the removed branches, some very heavy Chatting as they worked, it looked better already.
When the clock struck 11, a tea break was suggested. All gathered round to drink tea and coffee while they rested. Mike had brought Christmas stollen and Malteser reindeer. Everyone shared them out and they soon did disappear.
After the tea break, hard work was resumed. Branches were sawed, and more bushes were pruned. The area more open to remove litter previously caught. The park looked much better everyone thought.
Mike walked to his van, to his team gave a shout, And away they all went, as the sun was just coming out. But I heard him exclaim, before he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all at goodgym, this year has been a delight!"
There’s a greener side to our city. A vibrant, more open side. It should be celebrated, Nurtured, Enjoyed by everyone. Our allotments and parks are the lungs of our city. We’re here to breathe new life into them. We are Urban Green Newcastle.
