Report written by Adele Prince
As spring sprung good and proper, we took to the streets near our homes to take on a Twizzle
You might have heard of the Twizzle, or maybe you have engaged in one yourself, or seen evidence of them on Strava. It's basically when you find some parallel roads and walk, run or ride up and down them, creating a lovely pattern on the map. We are spoilt in Lewisham for possible routes, with many of them holding the status of 'Strava segment'.
The weekend was perfect for exploring our local streets, with blossom blooming and the sun easing out to warm us. Sarah was quick off the mark (she always is!), grabbing the early bird crown with a very neat Twizzle, covering the up and down sections of the roads, creating a lovely loop. My route isn't far from home, so I felt a bit daft repeatedly passing the same people, as I committed to an up-and-down-each-road affair (I had no idea if this was 'correct', but Jacqueline informed me that anything goes). The result is pretty spiky, but nevertheless interesting!
In terms of distance, the crown goes to Jacqueline, who covered an incredible 22km! Wow! Knowing Jacqueline, she probably incorporated a few good deeds along the way. I think possibly the most hilly route was covered by Olive, who grabs the Queen of the Mountain crown for her loopy loops around Forest Hill (have you seen the hills around the Horniman Museum?!). Thank you too Olive, for your capturing of local artist, Lionel Stanhope's lovely recent work, I must seek this out myself. The crown for dedication to joining in, even though you live on the other side of the country goes to Pauline, who was accompanied by the rather cute Shadow and Domino, all the way up in Runcorn! Pauline pointed out that there is a shortage of possible roads there, but I think you'll agree she did a lovely job of interpreting the challenge!
What fun! If you are the competitive type, you can try to claim Twizzle segments on Strava or, if you prefer to do things just for fun, why not explore some new roads on your daily walk or run?

Awww, thanks Adele. Now that I know what to aim for, I'll be twizzling whenever I can! Don't think I'll be as neat as these, though...very impressive ๐๐
