Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kash
Whateverse was a strange place where North, South, East and West didn't exist. There was no right and left or even right and wrong. The good thing was that there were numbers, so Sevan and Kash found Mrs I's house, knowing the house number. Little did they know that they landed in a different universe after shortening the way to their Camden missions by the Northern line and taking a third northbound branch only visible to the people of pure thoughts.
In front of Mrs I's house (yes, in Whateverse there was a concept of front and back), Sevan and Kash encountered another duet who tried to get in. Were they the alter egos of Sevan and Kash from Whateverse? The strangers identified themselves as nurses, which for Sevan and Kash made them Team Blue. In Whateverse there was a concept of colours, so Sevan and Kash were Team Black as that was the colour they wore and the colour of Northern line.
The nurses were local to Whateverse and knew what to expect coming to Mrs I's house. All four waited patiently while one of the nurses kept pressing the doorbell but with no response. Finally, he called Mrs I and everyone was relieved to hear her voice. After some wrestling with the doorknob, an old lady in a grey jumper appeared on the other side of the door.
Mrs I looked frail and unstable on her legs, she leaned on her walking stick and Kash to make her way back to the living room. Mrs I's legs were not compatible with Whateverse where she had arrived in 1958. For over six decades the legs tried to retain their status of being left and right but Whateverse's immune system kept fighting to correct the aberration.
While the nurses started the daily lateration retention treatment for the interuniversal patient, Team Black asked Mrs I for instructions on their task. The lady pointed them to an old sheet of paper on the table. The description and hand-drawn plan outlined the desired arrangement of furniture in the living room. The picture showed a sofa (on which Mrs I laid at the moment), a chest of drawers, a small table to be brought from upstairs and a hospital bed yet to be delivered. To the confusion of non-natives to Whateverse, there were no obvious directions. Sevan and Kash reckoned that the Tenor side is approximately northwest and the Hallow side means southeast. They avoided consulting Mrs I at the moment while she was receiving the treatment which seemed painful.
Team Black decided to start with the easy part and remove the obsolete big table from the living room. Even that couldn't be done without disturbing Team Blue whose members started putting their equipment on the table. The nurses were very friendly and helped Sevan and Kash clear the table. Team Black was worried that the table legs (measured by Sevan using the length of his arm) wouldn't fit within the door frames. They tried anyway. Some maneuvering got them halfway between two sets of doors but then they were stuck with Sevan and two nurses trapped behind the big table. Luckily, earlier they asked Mrs I about tools and Kash found pliers in a drawer. Those were enough to loosen four nuts below the table top and take off the legs. That freed the table and allowed Sevan and Kash to take it upstairs and swap it for a smaller table from the bedroom.
While Mrs I was still being treated on the sofa, Team Black busied themselves with taking the extra chairs upstairs and then moving the chest of drawers. After consulting Team Blue as experts in medical matters, Sevan and Kash were relieved to learn that the hospital bed would arrive unassembled and they could move the cabinet into its final position without affecting bed delivery.
Just when Team Black was left with absolutely nothing to do while the sofa was still occupied by Mrs I, the nurses finished applying bandages on the lady's legs and were ready to leave. Sevan and Kash helped Mrs I relocate temporarily to a chair and moved the sofa from the Tenor side to the Hallow side. Although Mrs I initially wanted to see the option where the rather heavy cabinet and the sofa swapped their places, after seeing the practicality and aesthetic of what Sevan and Kash did, she was convinced that it was the best arrangement. Anyway, there was no right and wrong in Whateverse, so it was impossible to fail. The only concern Mrs I had was that Team Black left only one chair in the living room. Sevan and Kash pointed out that she was sitting on the second chair, and then helped her get onto the sofa.
The last 10 minutes all three had spent chatting, then Mrs I decided it was time for her breakfast. When asked what they were going to have for breakfast, Sevan and Kash replied it was lunchtime for them. They left shortly after and realised they needed to find the way back to their universe quickly as Kash's left leg felt a bit funny that day, just as it was no longer 100% left.
