Today’s task was a rewarding one. Working alongside Karen, Margaret and Ria from Friends of Spital. Juli, Amanda, Tessa and Sheila got to work tidying up Spital Cemetery. This lovely historic burial ground is favoured by local residents as a quiet retreat from the busy main roads and offers itself as a sneaky cut through to the gorgeous open plains of Windsor Great Park.

The task today was to remove brambles from overgrown trees and to then to help restore some of the older graves by removing weeds and ivy. The ivy was very tenacious, but the team did great work giving the headstones a major haircut. We had to be careful not to pull the ivy of the graves but instead cut the main roots so that it can die and fall off naturally, thus protecting the delicate gravestones. We achieved a lot but there is still lots more to be done so we will be back again soon.
